HCC members compete at the East Kent Cyclo-cross

Whilst Wout Van Aert and Mathieu Van Der Poel were battling it out in Southern Spain (Benidorm), at the UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup recently, our very own were competing at the East Kent Cyclo-cross races (Betteshanger). Both Matt Fratesi and Perrin Charlton competed in the Elite and Veteran races.

Some from HCC came along to cheer both despite the stormy conditions. There was live commentary from Ian Field, 5 times British Cyclo Cross National Champion.  It was like watching Eurosport!

Matt suffered a broken seat post on lap 3, so his racing was cut short. Super unlucky, judging by the position he was holding in the race  and on a MTB too. Theres hope for next season once the bike is fixed.

Wearing the HCC jersey, Perrin had a flying start and had a great race, finishing 13th overall. He finished the season strong and looks set for more summer training and maybe a bit of running to improve his chances for the next season.

Club member Pierre Devlin took some photos on the day.

East Kent Cyclo Cross are part of the local cycling club VCDeal and put together an absolutely superb set of monthly CX races that starts in September each year.  You can get more information through this link if you fancy having a go.
