Ride Name Stowting Hill Challenge

Approximate Ascent 1230 feet
Key Features
  • Watch the traffic when crossing the busy A20 at Smeeth
  • Sharp left as you enter Stowting (watch the gravel)
  • 0.7 miles 6.1% average up Stowting Hill
  • Single file along busy Stone Street to Stelling Minnis
Route Description
  • Out west from HCC HQ
  • Right at Prince of Wales Pub along Burmarsh Road
  • Remember to TURN RIGHT on Giggers Green Road
  • Over busy A20 to Smeeth, BE CAREFUL
  • Head to Brabourne past 5 Bells Pub
  • Sharp left just as you enter Stowting (you’ve gone too far if you go past the Tiger Inn). WATCH THE GRAVEL on the corner
  • Up Stowting Hill and over the top
  • Past Jacksons Fencing on your right
  • Turn left 6 mile garage onto Stone Street
  • Along Stone Street for about 1 mile, turn right at to Curtis Road. SINGLE FILE PLEASE – FAST TRAFFIC
  • Back through Stelling Minnis, Rhodes Minnis
  • Descent down Longage Hill into Lyminge
  • Take first right out of Lyminge through Postling, Saltwood and back to HQ

Key Features
  • Watch the traffic when crossing the busy A20 at Smeeth
  • Who’ll be first up New Road Hill to the Walnut Tree Pub?
  • 1.2 miles 5.1% average up Wye Hill
  • Very steep descent into Brabourne
Route Description
  • Out west from HCC HQ
  • Right at Prince of Wales Pub along Burmarsh Road
  • Remember to TURN RIGHT on Giggers Green Road
  • Turn right up New Road Hill to the Walnut Tree Pub, stop and wait at the top
  • Over busy A20 to Smeeth, BE CAREFUL
  • Take a left through Naccolt, right at the end
  • Head to Wye
  • Deep breath for Wye Hill
  • Turn right at the top before Hastlingleigh
  • Very steep descent, past Brabourne on your right
  • Past the Tiger Inn in Stowting (it’s closed at this time of the day anyway)
  • Slightly dodgy road up and out of Stowting
  • Straight on over Stone Street(LOOK BOTH WAYS)
  • Through Postling, Saltwood and back to HQ

  • Single file from Brenzett to Appledore
  • Place Lane Hill, Woodchurch 0.4 miles, 4.8% average
  • Turn right at Woodchurch into Coldblow Road
  • Descend London Road into Hythe
Route Description
  • Out west from HCC HQ
  • Right at Prince of Wales Pub along Burmarsh Road
  • Head out through Newchurch, Ivychurch
  • Turn right at Brenzett roundabout
  • Over level crossing but WATCH OUT FOR TRAINS
  • Through Appledore, up and over a short hill to Woodchurch
  • Turn right at Woodchurch junction THEN FIRST RIGHT
  • Up the hill out of Woodchurch then take first right into Coldblow
  • Back through Stone Cross, Frith Road
  • Turn right into Aldington, then through Lympne
  • Descent London Road into Hythe and HQ
Ride Name Appledore – Lydd

  • Single file from Brenzett to Appledore
  • Turn left across the Marsh before you get to Appledore
  • Flat, flat, flat
Route Description
  • Out west from HCC HQ
  • Right at Prince of Wales Pub along Burmarsh Road
  • Head out through Newchurch, Ivychurch
  • Turn right at Brenzett roundabout
  • Over level crossing
  • Turn left across the Marsh before you get to Appledore (GET BEHIND SOMEONE BIG FOR MAXIMUM DRAFTING EFFECT)
  • Turn right onto A259 for 100 yards, then left to Lydd
  • Through Lydd, New Romney, St Mary’s Bay, Dymchurch and back to HQ 
Ride Name Transit Of Ashford

Key Features
  • Club sprint on the bridge over the Ham Street bypass
  • Pick up the pace on the A28 to Bethersden
  • Traditional pit stop at Potters Corner
  • Expect to wait at Wye level crossing!
Route Description
  • Out west from HCC HQ
  • Right at Prince of Wales Pub along Burmarsh Road
  • Remember to TURN RIGHT on Giggers Green Road
  • TURN LEFT at T junction to get to Frith Road
  • CLUB SPRINT over Ham Street bypass bridge
  • Turn right straight after bridge to Bromley Green and Shadoxhurst
  • Turn right at Kings Head
  • Turn left onto A28, fast road to Bethersden
  • Turn right before you get to Bethesden Village
  • Through Etchden Forest, past Goldwyn School
  • Turn left onto bridge over railway line
  • Over A20 at Potters Corner CAREFUL BUSY ROAD
  • Sandyhurst Lane  then left along A251 to Boughton Lees
  • Right to Kemps Corner then straight over to Wye
  • Back towards Hinxhill, then Brabourne Lees
  • Turn left then undulating to A20 at Sellindge
  • Along A20 to Newingreen
  • Then right and descend London Road to Hythe and HQ
Ride Name Stone in Oxney

Approximate Ascent Mainly flat, 500 feet
Key Features
  • Cheeky little hill up to Stone in Oxney 0.5 miles, 4.5%, careful on the descent
  • Full gas back to Appledore and Brenzett roundabout
Route Description
  • Out west from HCC HQ
    • Right at Prince of Wales Pub along Burmarsh Road
    • Head out to Newchurch
    • TURN RIGHT after Newchurch to Ruckinge
    • Left at T Junction onto B0267 to Ham Street
    • Head towards Kenardington then left to Appledore Heath
    • Turn left to Stone in Oxney then up the hill, church on your right
    • SHARP AND QUICK DESCENT down, take care
    • Turn left at bottom of hill
    • Back to Appledore, turn right to Brenzett
    • Left at Brenzett roundabout then immediate right
    • Back via Ivychurch, Newchurch, Botolphs Bridge to HQ
Ride Name Appledore – Lydd – Dungeness

  • Turn left across the Marsh before you get to Appledore
  • Flat, flat, flat
  • Dungeness often bleak
Route Description
  • Out west from HCC HQ
    • Right at Prince of Wales Pub along Burmarsh Road
    • Head out through Newchurch, Ivychurch
    • Turn right at Brenzett roundabout
    • Over level crossing
    • Turn left across the Marsh before you get to Appledore (GET BEHIND SOMEONE BIG FOR MAXIMUM DRAFTING EFFECT)
    • Turn right onto A259 for 100 yards, then left to Lydd
    • Detour to Dungeness
    • Back through Greatstone, Littlestone, New Romney, St Mary’s Bay, Dymchurch and back to HQ
